17th Agriculture Leadership Conclave 2026 Highlights AI, Innovation and Policy Reforms for India’s Farming Future

AI in Indian agriculture emerged as a key focus at the 17th Agriculture Leadership Conclave 2026 in New Delhi, where experts, policymakers, scientists, farmers and industry leaders explored how artificial intelligence, innovation and policy reforms can strengthen India’s agricultural sector. Organised with the support of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries under the theme “Feeding the Future,” the conclave featured discussions on agri-startups, international cooperation, investment, climate resilience and technology-driven farming.

Throughout the day, speakers stressed that India’s agricultural transformation will depend on stronger partnerships among government, academia, industry and farmers, alongside wider adoption of artificial intelligence, precision farming, climate-smart technologies and supportive policy reforms.

Inaugural session sets the agenda for future-ready agriculture

The inaugural session set the tone for the conclave by highlighting the importance of leadership, innovation and collaboration in addressing the challenges facing Indian agriculture.

Speakers emphasised that sustainable agricultural growth requires coordinated efforts between governments, research institutions, private companies, startups and farming communities. Discussions also focused on improving food security, increasing farmer incomes and accelerating the adoption of scientific innovations across the agriculture sector.

AI in Indian agriculture can add ₹70,000 crore annually

Delivering the keynote address, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh said AI in Indian agriculture has the potential to add nearly ₹70,000 crore to the country’s agricultural economy.

According to the minister, AI-driven optimisation can help each farmer save nearly ₹5,000 every year by improving decision-making, reducing input costs and increasing productivity.

He described agri-startups as the defining force of India’s agricultural future and said the country’s next startup revolution should emerge from farms rather than remaining concentrated in technology hubs.

Dr. Singh also highlighted India’s growing startup ecosystem, which has expanded from around 350 registered startups in 2015 to more than 2.3 lakh startups today. He said agriculture offers one of the country’s biggest opportunities for entrepreneurship, employment generation and rural economic development.

The minister also underlined the importance of satellite technology, weather forecasting, drones, resource mapping and AI-based advisory systems in helping farmers manage climate risks and improve farm productivity. Referring to the CSIR Aroma Mission, he said the Purple Revolution has created thousands of successful rural entrepreneurs through commercial lavender cultivation.

Session 1: Industry and academia call for stronger partnerships

The first technical session focused on Strengthening Industry-Academia Partnerships.

The final session focused on Investment, Credit and Risk Management in Agriculture.

Experts from banking, insurance, agribusiness and agri-tech sectors discussed the need to improve farmers’ access to finance while strengthening crop insurance and risk management systems.

Participants also highlighted the growing role of digital financial services, investment in agricultural infrastructure and collaboration among financial institutions, startups and policymakers to make Indian agriculture more resilient and investment-ready.

Conclave calls for science-led agricultural transformation

The conclave concluded with a shared view that India’s agricultural future depends on integrating technology, scientific research, investment and policy support with the practical knowledge of farmers.
