Improving rainfall activity is expected to support Monsoon Recovery Kharif Sowing across India after a slow start to the season, according to an ICICI Bank report.
Rainfall Improves in Several Regions
The report says rainfall has gained momentum in July, creating favourable conditions for faster kharif sowing in many parts of the country. While cumulative rainfall remained around 20% below the long period average as of July 6, weather conditions have improved across parts of Central, Northwest, and South India.
East and Northeast India continue to record the highest rainfall deficit, indicating that some regions still require sustained rainfall in the coming weeks.
Reservoir Levels Offer Support
The report adds that reservoir storage at the basin level remains in a comfortable position, which could help reduce irrigation concerns and support crop growth despite uneven rainfall.
However, states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat, and Karnataka are still receiving below normal rainfall, making the progress of the southwest monsoon crucial for the remainder of the kharif season.
